Emphasis Areas

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) program can now add an emphasis in Vehicle Design & Testing or Metal Casting.

Vehicle Design and Testing Emphasis

Are you interested in subjects like Automotive Engineering, Vehicle Dynamics, Applied Combustion, and Engine Development and Performance? If so, you may want to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree with an emphasis in Vehicle Design and Testing!

Metal Casting Emphasis

Are you interested in subjects like Molten Metal Processes, Metal Casting, or Advanced Manufacturing Materials? If so, you may want to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree with an emphasis in Metal Casting!

How Does it Work?

Students interested in pursuing an emphasis in Vehicle Design and Testing or Metal Casting will still complete all of the degree requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. However, instead of completing 3 major electives, students will complete 3 emphasis electives.

General Education Requirements

The General Education (Core) Curriculum provides foundational knowledge in academic disciplines, exposing students to diverse learning perspectives and ways of knowing in Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, and Arts and Humanities.

While the general education courses are required of all students and are (mostly) independent of a student’s major, the Department of Mechanical Engineering recommends students take specific Math and Science courses to satisfy Areas A2, D1, and D2.
