Students Awarded Scholarships from Foundry Educational Foundation

Six Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering students were awarded scholarships at the Foundry Educational Foundation’s (FEF) Industry Conference in Chicago, IL which took place November 18th – 20th. The students were accompanied by Assistant Professor and FEF Key Professor Dr. Mingzhi Xu and Assistant Professor Dr. Jingjing Qing. Dr. Xu and Dr. Qing also serve as faculty advisors of Georgia Southern’s American Foundry Society chapter.

Samuel Holt and Shelton Fowler, graduate students in the MS in Mechanical Engineering program, each received a $2,000 scholarship. Samuel and Shelton conduct research on metal casting under the supervision of Dr. Mingzhi Xu. Both students also have experience as interns in the casting industry. Samuel interned with Nemak (aluminum die casting) and Shelton interned with J.C. Steele & Sons (iron casting).
