Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia received approval from the University System of Georgia Board of Regents in August of 2014 to offer a B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering on its main campus beginning August 2015. This is a new degree that will be offered through Georgia Southern’s College of Engineering and Computing. While initially housed in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and supported by that department’s faculty, it is envisioned that up to 12 faculty will be hired over four years for the new program, and in time, manufacturing engineering will be spun-off as a standalone department.
The method of delivery will be primarily face-to-face delivery of traditionally formatted lectures and laboratories. The program will be more hands-on and kinesthetic than traditionally encountered in engineering programs at other institutions.
