IT 4130 – Information Technology Issues and Management

Course Description

This course covers case studies of IT development projects to assist the student in the recognition of the need of an IT development project.  The student will study and critique the development, implementation and the management of both successful and unsuccessful projects.  Students will integrate the concepts learned in this course through the development of a focused case or company/industry position paper on IT. This course is part of the IT core  required for all IT majors.


Prior or concurrent enrollment and a minimum grade of “C” in IT 3234.

Course Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the ways in which IT has and will be used in business and management;
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of emerging information technologies;
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of alternative approaches to meeting the IT needs of an organization;
  4. Identify and suggest appropriate responses to managerial and organizational issues stemming from the development, implementation and use of computer-based information systems;
  5. Discuss the implementation of information systems from a global perspective, including economic and cultural differences;
  6. Explain the major social and ethical issues involved in the development and use of information technology;
  7. Explain the importance of life-long learning for professional success.
