Accreditation & Mission
IT Program Accreditation
Our Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program has been accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). National accreditation from ABET demonstrates that a program meets the standards of the profession for which it prepares students. An ABET-accredited program assures prospective students that the program is committed to using best practices and innovation in education.
Our program was one of the first three IT programs in the country accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET. Our degree program covers the main information technologies of programming, database, networking and web development, while stressing the applications of these technologies in a range of different areas.
Mission
The primary aim of our BS program in Information Technology (IT) is to prepare students for successful careers as I.T. professionals to make a positive contribution to society. This aim will enhance the lives of our graduates and serve the needs of our constituents. We do so in accordance with ABET CAC guidelines and in full cognizance of Georgia Southern University’s aims to develop “students who value honesty, civility and the dignity of work” (Excerpt from Georgia Southern’s mission statement). At the same time, we hope to give the students an enjoyable learning experience, enhanced by innovative pedagogical approaches.
