Faculty Resources
Information for faculty about marketing, media, and promotion of faculty expertise.
Faculty Directory and Profiles
The College of Engineering and Computing provides a faculty and staff directory for basic contact information. In addition, each department has their own method for providing faculty contact information and faculty profiles on the web. As a general rule, the faculty do not have login accounts on departmental websites. Each department has their own website content manager, appointed by the chair, with login privileges to post and update profile pages. Departmental profile pages can link to your CV, research, or personal website. Please ask your department chair to refer you to your department’s web content manager.
Uploading and sharing your CV using your Georgia Southern Google Drive is an efficient method for linking to your CV from your departmental faculty profile. Provide the publicly shared link to your CV to departmental content manager to add to your profile. Each time you update your CV on Google Drive, it will automatically sync and update on the web.
Promoting Your Research and Scholarship
Henderson Library provides a number of Institutional Repository Services including SelectedWorks Profiles and Expert Search. You can submit the SelectedWorks Profile Setup/Update Request form using your Georgia Southern email account to have your profile created or updated. Faculty with a SelectedWorks Profile automatically receive a personal PlumX profile. PlumX Profiles gather traditional and non-traditional impact metrics for your work, including citations, usage, captures, and social media mentions.
See the College of Engineering and Computing Expertise Search webpage to find researchers in your area of expertise. By establishing a SelectedWorks profile for your research, your profile information and research interests will automatically appear in Expertise Search on our college website.
Digital Commons@Georgia Southern is an open-access digital repository that collects, archives, and disseminates the intellectual and creative output of the University’s faculty, staff, students, and community partners. Digital Commons hosts contributions from across the campuses and the community, including university documents and publications, faculty and student research, conferences, journals, research data, news, and more. Since Digital Commons’ launch in Fall 2013, over 1.7 million items have been downloaded by visitors from around the world.
To support funded research, a full range of Data Management Services and training are available as well.
For more information on promoting your research and scholarship, contact the Digital Commons Team at (912) 478-4056 or email digitalcommons@georgiasouthern.edu. A member of the Digital Commons Team will contact you as soon as possible during regular business hours.
Options for Faculty Personal and Special Purpose Websites
Many of the faculty use their personal websites to support their teaching and research. The university does not provide traditional hosting services for personal websites. The university recommends Google Sites associated with your Georgia Southern Google Apps account for personal faculty websites. Google Sites are also appropriate for special purpose websites and events.
Optionally, you may register your own domain name and use any external hosting service. Many of our faculty prefer to use an external hosting service, allowing full control and customization.
Provide the link to your Georgia Southern Google Site or your externally hosted domain to your departmental web content manager to post on your profile.
Research Laboratories & News
Faculty associated with a campus research laboratory can provide information about ongoing research initiatives to their departmental web content managers to post on the web. This can be as short as a paragraph or multiple pages with images. Work with your content manager by providing the content he or she needs to post. News items about events, conferences, presentations, grants and awards can also be posted on the department and college News pages. Contact your content manager for departmental News. Contact Barbara Gooby, the College Communications Officer, to post News items on the College of Engineering and Computing website.
