Undergraduate Student Wins Award in Internal Combustion Engine Division Competition

Cesar Carapia, an undergraduate student in the BSME program, was awarded the first prize of $2500 for his presentation in ASME’s Internal Combustion Engine Division Undergraduate Student Presentation Competition. Cesar currently conducts research in the Automotive Combustion Laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Valentin Soloiu, Professor and Allen E. Paulson Distinguished Chair Cesar’s research is focused on the development of multi-fuel engine technologies to reduce emissions from combustion processes. The methods Cesar employed include Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition (RCCI) of a high-reactivity fuel in the combustion chamber plus port fuel injection of a low reactivity fuel.
