Alumna Macy Spears (MSCE ’23) to Join Tharpe Engineering Group

Tharpe Engineering Group has announced the hiring of Macy Spears, as Structural Design Engineer. In her position, Spears will prepare design calculations and construction documents for building projects ranging from significant historic preservation efforts to large-scale commercial developments.

Originally from Augusta, Georgia, Spears will graduate from Georgia Southern University this fall with a Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering. She received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Georgia Southern in 2021. During her studies, Spears served as a research and teaching assistant in the College of Engineering. In that role, she worked with the Georgia Department of Transportation to evaluate and implement ASTM standards. She has also published work in the Journal of Structural Integrity and Maintenance and in the 6th International New York Conference on Evolving Trends in Interdisciplinary Research and Practices.
