MechE Top Student Named to All-District Athletics
STATESBORO – Georgia Southern men’s tennis junior Pascal Wagemaker was named Academic All-District Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America for Spring 2020 At-Large athletes.
Wagemaker now advances to national balloting in an attempt to become just the second Academic All-American in program history behind Ulrich Ebensperger in 2003.
The Zuid-Scharwoude, Netherlands, native went 13-4 in singles play and 8-7 in doubles while carrying a 4.00 GPA as a Mechanical Engineering major. From Jan. 26-Feb. 23, Wagemaker recorded a team best 11 straight wins primarily from the three position in singles action.
On Jan. 29, he was named the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for his performances against Miami, The Citadel and Clemson. During the three match span, he went 2-1 in singles with wins over the Bulldogs and Tigers.
He also made the Georgia Southern President’s List for the Spring 2020 semester.
NCAA Division I-District 4 is made up of colleges from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. Wagemaker was one of only two selected from the Peach State alongside Georgia Bulldogs swimmer Jackson Ford.
