Scholarships

College of Engineering and Computing Scholarships

Applications for all University and College of Engineering and Computing scholarships are available through your MyScholarships page on your MyGeorgiaSouthern portal. The annual deadline for scholarships offered through the Georgia Southern Foundation (all University and College scholarships) is January 31. All decisions are made by March 31 each year.

Civil Engineering & Construction

Robert B. Baker Scholarship

Available to: CE/ConE

Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis each year to outstanding traditional students who are athletes majoring in Civil Engineering. Recipients must be enrolled full-time and must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Financial need, extracurricular activities, school and community involvement and prior work experience will be considered when making the selection. Awards will be made without regard to race, religion, gender or area of residency. Should no student athlete majoring in CE qualify for the scholarship in a given year, it may be offered to a student athlete majoring in any engineering program. Should no student athletes be available, the scholarship will then be given to students who meet the other criteria.

Hussey, Gay, Bell and DeYoung Civil Engineering Scholarship

Available to: CE/ConE

Award is available to junior or senior level students majoring in Civil Engineering. Students must be residents of southern Georgia or South Carolina. The scholarship committee may invite a representative of Hussey, Gay, Bell and DeYoung to sit on the selection committee.

Stuber-EMC Scholarship Civil Engineering  Scholarship

Available to: CE/ConE

Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis each year to a deserving students majoring in Civil Engineering. Each applicant must be at the junior or senior level during the award period. Each applicant must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and be a full-time student at the time of application and must maintain the GPA or better and maintain full-time status during the award period. Each applicant must be of high moral character and must be considered a leader among his or her peers. Scholarships will be awarded without regard to age, gender, race, marital status, area of residency or religious preference. Should all other factors prove equal, financial need will be the deciding factor.

Thomas & Hutton Scholarship in Honor of J. Mitchell Bohannon, III

Available to: CE/ConE

Award is available to junior or senior level students majoring in Civil Engineering.

Construction

Ellis Cartee Endowment

Available to: Construction

Available to junior or senior level students majoring in Construction.  First preference should be given to students from Bulloch County.  Second preference should go to students from Candler County.  Should no recipient be found, the scholarship may be awarded to students majoring in Civil Engineering from Bulloch or Candler County.  Should no (CE) recipient be found, the scholarship may be awarded to any deserving student majoring in Construction.

Construction Management Alumni Scholarship

Available to: Construction

Available to full-time  freshmen or sophomores who have declared a major in Construction. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 or a minimum transferring college or state university GPA of 2.5.  Funds are awarded after completion of one semester at Georgia Southern while maintaining a GPA of 2.0 as a full-time student.

Alex Futch Memorial Scholarship

Available to: Construction

The recipient must have a minimum overall non-adjusted GPA of 3.0.  Funds shall be applicable for any purpose the student deems necessary for pursuing their Construction degree.  The student must have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours of Construction courses.

Golden Hammer Scholarship

Available to: Construction

Available to students majoring in Construction.  Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and may be at any class level.  Students must have completed three Construction courses with a C or better.

Home Builders Association of Statesboro Scholarship

Available to: Construction

Applicants must demonstrate a genuine vocational or professional interest in the building construction industry, preferably the residential sector.  Applications must be majoring in CM.  The recipient shall be required to maintain a 3.0 GPA in major subjects and at least an overall 2.5 GPA.  Financial need should be a factor and the student must be enrolled full-time.

William Jones Lane, Sr. Scholarship

Available to: Construction

Students applying for this scholarship must be pursuing a Construction degree.  Students must have taken at least 12 semester hours or three courses within the program with a C or better.  Students must be enrolled full-time at the time they receive the award, and maintain full-time enrollment throughout the award period.  Students who are in their senior year or interning are eligible.  Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 in order to apply, and must maintain grades of the minimum or higher.  Students must be of high moral character and must be considered leaders among their peers.  Selection will be made without regard to age, race, gender, area of residency, marital status or religious preference.  Should all other factors be considered equal, financial need will be the determining factor.

Cap Mallard Scholarship

Available to: Construction

Award is to be offered to the rising senior Construction major with the highest GPA.

Ray M. Wright Scholarship Fund of the Home Builders Association of Columbus

Available to: CM

Applicants must be majoring in Construction and must demonstrate a genuine vocational or professional interest in the building construction industry, preferably the residential sector.  Applicants must have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA and must submit two letters of recommendation, as well as a brief statement of their commitment to the industry.  Financial need must be demonstrated and the student must be enrolled full-time when the scholarship is received and throughout the award period.  The scholarship may be renewable.

Stephen G. Moore Scholarship

Available to: EE and CompE

The Stephen G. Moore Scholarship was established by Betty A. Moore in 1987 in memory of her son, Stephen G. Moore, who aspired to be an engineer. The scholarship awarded to students in the College of Engineering and Computing who have demonstrated a financial need.

MR Systems, Inc. Endowed Scholarship

Available to: EE

Available to outstanding Electrical Engineering majors.

Information Technology / Computer Science

The Bhatia Foundation Scholarship

Available to: CS

Dr. Sarvan Bhatia and Prem L. Bhatia established the Bhatia Foundation Scholarship in 2007 to aid international students majoring in Computer Science.

Lancy C. Jen Scholarship

Available to: CS/IT

Lancy C. Jen was a native of Shanghai, China, and a member of the Savannah community from 1973 on. She taught mathematics in several local educational institutions, and had an interest in encouraging talented students to continue and prosper in their study of Computer Science. She had a special concern for international students pursuing studies in the United States. This scholarship was established in 1997 to honor her father, Pei Ling Chan.

The scholarship will be awarded annually to a student who best meets the following criteria:

  • Has maintained a minimum of a B average in all university-level math courses
  • Has demonstrated accomplishment in mathematical endeavors
  • Is a full-time student at Armstrong and majoring in Computer Science
  • Has a class standing at least of sophomore level
  • Shows financial need
Morris Technology Scholarship

Available to: IT/CS

The scholarship may be awarded to any IT or Computer Science student who meets the following criteria: 1) maintains a 3.0 GPA; 2) is from a rural city or town in the state of Georgia (population less than 100,000); 3) preference may be given to minority students.  Should there be no applicants who meet items 2 and 3, the scholarship may be awarded to any IT or CS student who maintains a 3.0 GPA.

Safe Systems, Inc. Technology Scholarship

Available to: IT/CS

Scholarship shall be awarded to rising seniors, enrolled full time, with a minimum GPA of 3.0.  First preference should go to students majoring in IT.  Should no qualified reicipient be found, the scholarship shall be awarded to students pursuing a major in Computer Science or Information Systems; financial need should be the determining factor.  All applicants should have a completed FAFSA form on file demonstrating financial need.

Robert and Thalia Stoddard Family Scholarship

Available to: IT in alternate years

The Robert and Thalia Stoddard Family Scholarship will rotate between the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing and the Parker College of Business. The scholarship will be awarded to students majoring in Information Technology and Finance or Economics respectively.

Manufacturing Engineering

Crider Recruitment Scholarship

Available to: MfgE

Recipients shall be incoming freshmen or sophomores enrolled or enrolling in the College.  Preference shall be given to students from nearby rural counties of Bryan, Bulloch, Candler, Effingham, Emanuel, Evans, Jenkins, Liberty, Long, Screven, Tattnall, Toombs, and Treutlen.  For students who remain in the program and on track for graduation (2.25 GPA), the scholarship is renewable for up to three years, $1,000 per semester.

Gene Haas Scholarships

Available to: MfgE

Recipients shall be incoming freshmen or sophomores enrolled or enrolling in the College.  For students who remain in the program and on track for graduation, the scholarship is renewable on an annual basis.

Claude A. Howard Manufacturing Engineering Scholarship

Available to: MfgE

Applicants must be rising senior MfgE majors with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.  First preference shall be given to applicants from Statesboro and the surrounding region.  When selecting recipients, emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s business ability, desire to enter manufacturing engineering, work experience, salesmanship, well-rounded personality and desire to remain in the local area.

Manufacturing Engineering Scholarship

Available to: MfgE

Students must have a 3.0 or higher GPA; entering freshmen must have an overall high school GPA of 3.0.  Students must be pursuing a BS in Manufacturing Engineering.  First preference will be given to students who are residents of Bulloch, Evans, Bryan, Screven, Candler, Jenkins, Effingham and Emanuel counties.  Second preference shall include students who are residents of the State of Georgia.  Third preference will go to residents of the U.S., and international students should be preferred fourth.  The scholarship is renewable; however, the previous recipient must re-apply.

Mechanical Engineering

Edward A. Abercrombie Memorial Scholarship

Available to: MechE

Student must be a senior in good academic standing, majoring in ME.  First priority should be given to students who show active participation in one of the following organizations on campus:  Baptist Student Union, Campus Outreach, Canterbury Club or Wesley Foundation.  Priority will be given to Georgia residents.  Second priority will be given to U.S. residents.

Hugh E. Darley, Sr. Mechanical Engineering Scholarship

Available to: MechE

Statesboro native Hugh E. Darley, Sr. graduated from Georgia Southern University in 1961 and continued to support Georgia Southern by contributing to the College of Technology and Greater University Fund all while serving as president of ITEC Productions, a company that develops theme parks. This scholarship was erected in memory of Hugh E. Darley, Sr. by his son Hugh E. Darley, Jr.

Grinnell Technology Scholarship

Available to: MechE

The Grinnell Technology Scholarship was established in 2002 to provide financial aid to students in the College of Engineering and Computing. ITT Grinnell Technology is a manufacturing business that produces both mechanical and industrial products for varying uses: mining companies, marine research, oil and gas companies, and alternative energy research. ITT Grinnell Technology aims to provide the workforce with the next generation of engineers needed to continue this work.

Charles Robert Pound, Sr. Scholarship

Available to: MechE

Students must be pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree.  First preference goes to those at the junior and senior level.  Students must be full-time students with a 3.0 GPA.

Various College of Engineering and Computing Majors

Gulfstream Aerospace Engineering Endowment

Available to: CE/ConE/ECE/CpE/MfgE/MechE/SE

Scholarship is available to outstanding students in any one of Georgia Southern’s engineering programs (Civil, Construction, Electrical, Computing, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Software).  Gulfstream Scholars will receive direct scholarship support during their first two years at Georgia Southern.  The scholarship is renewable once for a total of two years (four semesters).  Recipients must maintain full-time status and an over GPA of 2.7.  Recipients must also be enrolled in at least one math and one science or engineering course each semester, earning grades of B or better in these courses.

Ernest W. & Audrey M. Hartsell Engineering Scholarship

Available to: CE/ConE/ECE/CpE/MfgE/MechE/SE

The student’s academic record, demonstrated talents, personal character, relevant extracurricular activities, motivating interests and financial need will all be taken into consideration.  The scholarship will be open to students majoring in any field of engineering at any class level.

R.J. Kennedy, Jr. and Spencer W. Boyd, Sr. Engineering Scholarship

Available to: CE/ConE/ECE/CpE/MfgE/MechE/SE

The scholarship area of greatest need within the College shall be recommended to the scholarship committee by the Dean of the College. Further, the Dean’s recommendation will be consistent with the donor’s wishes for the recipient to be an undergraduate student with unmet financial need, majoring in one of the college’s engineering programs and on track to graduate. The scholarship committee will select the recipient in collaboration with the Foundation.

Savannah Food & Industries Engineering Scholarship

Available to: CE/ConE/EE/CpE/MfgE/MechE/SE

The Savannah Foods and Industries Engineering Scholarship recognizes outstanding students who are majoring in Engineering.

F. Everett Williams Scholarship

Available to: CE/ECE/MfgE/MechE/Construction

Available to undergraduates who demonstrate financial need and are majoring in one of the following: Civil, Electrical, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering; or Construction.  If no recipient is available, the scholarship may be awarded to undergraduate students in any technology discipline.  Each scholarship is renewable if the student remains in good academic standing.  First preference will be given to students from Bulloch County, Georgia.  Second preference is given to students from southeastern Georgia, and third preference to students from northern Virginia.

Allen E. Paulson Student Scholarships

Available to all College of Engineering and Computing majors

The purpose of the Allen E. Paulson Student  Scholarship is to provide recognition and assistance to outstanding engineering and technology students. The scholarship is available to undergraduate students majoring in any of the College of Engineering and Computing’s degree granting programs at any class level.

SAME Savannah Post Scholarship

The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) is a premier global engineering organization with a mission to “lead collaborative efforts to identify and resolve national security infrastructure-related challenges.” The SAME Savannah Post supports this mission through assisting deserving students pursuing baccalaureate degrees in engineering, architecture, planning, and construction fields at local colleges and universities.
REQUIREMENTS:
Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

  • High School senior or full-time undergraduate student (freshman through junior) at an accredited university or college;
  • Pursuing a degree in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) fields.
Applicants must also submit the SAME Savannah Post application form, an official transcript, two references (one of whom must be either a science or math teacher or your counselor), and letters of recommendation from your references, and a two-page essay explaining why you should receive a 2024-2025 scholarship.

Dr. Irving Pressley McPhail Endowed Scholarship

The Dr. Irving Pressley McPhail Endowed Scholarship honors Dr. McPhail’s lifelong pursuit of higher education and championing the cause of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all areas of society.

Georgia Chapter of the Association for Learning Environments Scholarship

CNTA Maher Memorial Scholarship

Citizens for Nuclear Technology Awareness (CNTA), a non-profit organization, is proud to announce it is offering the Robert Maher Memorial Scholarship sponsored by Savannah River Remediation & its parent company Amentum for the 2021-2022 academic year.

This is a $5,000 scholarship that will be awarded to a Junior or Senior at a college or university in South Carolina or Georgia who demonstrates an outstanding academic achievement in nuclear science/engineering or a directly related field. Example fields are listed on the first page of the application, and include chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental science, materials science, etc. with applications to the nuclear field.

Association of Old Crows Scholarship

A fundamental part of the AOC’s mission is investing in the next generation of Crows. One of the most significant ways that we do this is by providing the AOC/Raytheon Scholarship to sophomore and Junior year college students. We provide two scholarships annually, each in the amount of $12,500, to students studying in the fields of engineering or engineering technology. These scholarships are funded by a generous donation from Raytheon.

Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarships

The Georgia Engineering Foundation announces the availability of its scholarships for students enrolled in ABET-accredited engineering programs each spring.  Students are encouraged to apply at www.GEFinc.org through September 30, 2022 for the $1,000 to $5,000 scholarships.  Applicants must be Georgia residents, US citizens, and enrolled in an ABET-accredited engineering program.

Scholarship for Engineering Education for Minorities

The Scholarship for Engineering Education for Minorities program offers financial assistance to Georgia residents who are engineering students attending an eligible post-secondary institution and enrolled in an engineering program of study approved by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.  The purpose of the program is to attract minority undergraduate students into the engineering profession and to increase the number of qualified engineers in Georgia.  For more information about the Scholarship for Engineering Education for Minorities please click here.

Veteran Car Donations Annual Scholarship
