The i²STEM^ed

The Institute of Interdisciplinary STEM Education (i²STEM^ed) is an outreach center for the College of Education (COE) at Georgia Southern University. The Institute’s administrative office is housed on the in the COE’s classroom building, room 3161, on the Statesboro Campus.

i²STEM^ed establishes collaborative interdisciplinary programs committed to excellence in K-20 science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) focusing on rural, diverse, low socioeconomic status and under-represented populations. The Institute’s efforts address problems indigenous to the rural environments of the region, including issues of cultural diversity and cultural relevance within the diverse population, matters of equitable access to STEM education for students, and concerns about the relevance of STEM for rural students.

The Institute creates broadly inclusive partnerships across academia, business, education and research centers in Southeast Georgia, as well as supports professional development, outreach, curriculum development, innovative courses, and research in STEM education through grant funded projects.

Long-term goals of i²STEM^ed are to establish partnerships across Georgia, the southeastern region of the United States, nationally, and even internationally to address issues of STEM education in rural areas.
